January is over already and I haven’t shot one single gig yet in 2008. I know that the gigs are slowly but surely on their way back so I’m making the most of the quiet time to continue branching out and experimenting.
Finally I’m back to my fascination with eyes. I don’t know what it is!?! It’s been years since my first attempt at shots like
this, but ‘In dreams she’s with me‘ still proves to be a very popular pic.
This time working with Tanya (again), we’ve begun what will hopefully become a large series, keeping them more simple for now. It’s along time since my first attempt but I’m back with better equipment, better company and I think I have a better understanding of what I’m doing.
With these latest pictures I was trying to get to grips with using different layers and saturation levels to experiment with the colours and tones.
The titles for the pics are lyrics from songs by A Perfect Circle, a side effect from listening to them throughout the shoot and then for hours when I was working on the pics, but I think they add something. Yes, I know one of the lyrics is from John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ but the Perfect Circle version is better!
As always feedback, criticism, comments, thoughts or anything would be greatly appreciated.

01|Feb|2008 1Cool, i really want to try some shots like that at some stage. The eye is sometimes the most popular form to capture in art. I had it explained to me in school but iv totally forgotten. They seem some-what intimidating or something. Like the eyes in the mona lisa being the most noticeable part that seem real(the whole, she looking at me from everywhere in the room things).
You pic up at the top of the page has some beautiful colouring in it. Really nice soft tones but keeping the detail in the skin and eye lashes. It sits really well against the black background aswell. Did you use a macro lens? or was it, shoot the entire face and crop?
Well done man

01|Feb|2008 2Cheers Ray. I don’t know what it is, but I love to shoot them. Just don’t get the chance too often.
Once again, shot these under a household lamp using my 18-135mm lens. Have to get my hands on a macro. With that one shot in particular I just had to find the right distance to be away from the face, then zoom in and still allow the detail on the skin and eye. So there was nothing cropped out of the shot.
Really happy with these and hopefully more to come! =)

02|Feb|2008 4Well it is!? lol
It’s not that all the pics are going into one idea, more coming from alot of big ideas and we’re figuring things out as we go along.
I’ve still got one more set of pics to sort from another shoot we’ve had, and we’re in the middle of organising a couple of crazy shoots in the coming weeks!
There’s also talk of a couple of exhibitions.
Cheers for the support! =)
