I haven’t posted a blog over the last few days. Two reasons for this; I’ve been working away on another series of pics (which should be online by the weekend), and I’ve been up to my eyeballs with college work. Most of the time college doesn’t provide much inspiration for a blog post.
But with my secondary research now compiled for my thesis I’ve got all sorts of music industry breakdowns, statistics and information on using MySpace.com as a P.R tool. All broken down to about 5000 words, which I’m told is twice as big as
it’s supposed to be!? Woops.
As my primary research begins and I start surveying bands and interviewing music industry types, I’m hoping to be able to provide useful tips and info here on the blog. To start I wanted to show people some of the statistics I’ve come across so far, ridiculous numbers about the use of MySpace.com, published at the start of this month by a U.S Web Strategist, Jeremiah Owyang;
· MySpace has more than 110 million monthly active users
around the globe
·On average 300,000 new people sign up to MySpace every day,
this month they broke a record and had 4.5 billion page views to the
site in one day.
MySpace is localized and translated in more than 20 international
territories.
MySpace is one of the fastest growing websites of all time with;
·100 Billion rows of data
·14 Billion comments on the site
·20 Billion mails on the site total
·50 Million mails per day (more than Yahoo, Hotmail,
or Google)
·10 Billion friend relationships
·1.5 Billion images
·8 Million images being uploaded per day
·60,000 new videos being upload to MySpaceTV each day
·More than 8 million artists and bands on MySpace Music
Now from my own calculations so far, there’s about 15,000 Irish musicians registered on MySpace Music. All of these figures are pretty staggering when you consider the competition out there. But you should also see how much exposure for your band/music is possible, simply using MySpace.com as a P.R tool and it’s free.Hopefully I can help some of you learn how to maximise that, as I learn it myself. I’ll keep you posted.
