Last week saw the return of the Devious Theatre bunch for our second ever production, which as it turns out was the return of our first ever production ‘Heart Shaped Vinyl’. We first did the “theatrical mixtape” last August in Cleeres Theatre, and as it was our first production we really didn’t know what to expect.

The show, written by Devious member John Morton, was a success with seasoned theatre enthusiast John Cleere callinghsv19.jpg it “the best Kilkenny theatre of 2006″ in his column for the Kilkenny Advertiser newspaper. Last week Heart Shaped Vinyl was brought back by popular demand for 4 more nights. This time around we had lost the nerves we first had, certain we had something special on our hands, and we were right.

Last week was easily one of the greatest weeks I’ve ever had. From the opening night on Wednesday the theatre was packed full, with growing demand for tickets and an unbelieveably positive reponse from the audience. The show continued to catch attention, the eye-catching posters by Paddy Dunne, the rave reviews in local papers and the hsv21.jpgword of mouth from people who had seen the show meant that all 4 nights quickly sold out.

The week flew by, an amazing blur of great performances, talking to friends and strangers who couldn’t stop talking about the show, nights out celebrating and without going into detail I’m pretty sure I’m living the sequel to the show which tells tales of couples, relationships and music.

For anybody who came and saw Heart Shaped Vinyl, I hope you enjoyed it, whether it was your first time, your second time or even your third time. Yes, some people loved it so much they have now seen the play no less than three times. I’dhsv22.jpg like to thank everyone for their support, the constant feedback and positive words, the support of local media and most importantly the Arts Council who recognised that the Devious Theatre bunch are doing something different and are well in need of funding and support.

For anybody who missed it then it really means you missed out, but not to fear, rehearsals begin tonight for our next production, Cannibal the Musical, written by South Park’s Trey Parker, and I’ve just uploaded a whole gallery of photos to the KilkennyMusic galleries with shots from Heart Shaped Vinyl featuring shots by myself, Ken and Daw.

hsv3.jpgThe gallery covers rehearsals the week before the show, and the show itself. You can see the transformation of the actors to each of their various characters spread of the five decades. There’s also behind the scenes shots from backstage, revealing some of the Devious shenanigans, the celebrations on the last night, the news reports from Paddy Dunne with feedback, the Devious goodluck charm (ahsv9.jpg poster of David Hasselhoff!?), the Devious dinner party on Sunday evening and more.

So, once again thanks to everyone for coming to see the show and for all the positive reponses. Devious Theatre will be back in August. Please swing by the Heart Shaped Vinyl gallery and check out the pics. Now I’m off to buy the papers to check out the reviews.
