Just got my hands on the new poster for Devious Theatre’s second presentation of Heart Shaped Vinyl. The romantic comedy of sorts returns to Cleeres Theatre June 27th until June 30th and bookings are already being taken. The play, which also features the Chief, is written by KilkennyMusic forum regular John Morton, and it follows the relationships of five couples spread over five decades and how music affects or plays a part in their relationships.

This poster is just one of five for the show, each brilliantly created by Paddy Dunne, each dedicated to a couple and recreating either an album cover from that era or a famous shot. In this case the poster features myself and Suzanne O’Brien as Jimmy Skids and Dee Dee, in homage to that classic shot of Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungeon. My character Jimmy Skids is the lead singer of hardcore punk band The Skidmarks, Dee Dee is a deranged and obsessed fan with multiple personalities and violent tendencies. They hook up, people get tied to chairs, names get carved in stomachs and hearts eventually get broken.

If you’re a lover of music, drama, humour or like seeing great characters pulled through some of the hardest and weirdest relationships then this is the show for you. Heart Shaped Vinyl is back by popular demand and we’ve added an extra night, last time we had to turn people away. Oh and it doesn’t seem to be on the posters this time but this play has some pretty explicit language and content, so if you’re easily offended I wouldn’t bother.
