Shootin’ Drummers

Today saw the annual Lord of the Drums showcase in the Zoo Club on Parliament Street. Sponsored by Essaness Music and Yamaha, once again Frank Salmon gathered together a great selection of drummers for the occassion.

A mix of different styles and talent from the likes of Dave Long (R6), Barry English (I’ll eat your face), Jammy (Kilkenny Pipe Band), Kilkenny Samba Band, Bob Ryan (NearlyDeadJim, SlaveZero), KilkennyMusic’s own Alan Dawson (Itchy Trigger Finger) and more.

I’m sure Daw will talk about the more technical side of the event but today meant a great opportunity for me to shoot several drummers at once. After nearly two years shooting bands and gigs, drummers are always the ones who are the challenge. Always hidden away at the back, usually badly lit, buried behind equipment and moving too fast.

Ok, so the lighting still wasn’t great today but I’ve learned to expect that, and try to work around it. I also didn’t have to worry about the rest of the band, which is always nice.
