I’ve been working with Itchy Trigger Finger for nearly a year and a half now, travelling on the road with the guys and constantly sticking a camera in their faces. It’s been so long since I’ve actually been in the crowd as a spectator when they took to the stage.

Tuesday night saw ITF head to the Music Factory in Carlow for a small battle of the bands competition run by two of my classmates. A strange mix of six bands on the bill and a chance for the lads to get in another warm up gig before they tour their upcoming E.P this summer. I was also heading out that night to continue celebrating my birthday.

ITF were last up giving me plenty of time to consume ridiculous amounts of tequila and pints of beer before hitting the dancefloor. Clearly the heaviest band of the night, with some bands playing Oasis and Artic Monkeys covers, the lads did what they do best, bringing a powerful end to the competition with their well formed progressive anthem metal sound.

It was great being in the middle of the pit watching ITF on stage as bodies flew through the air. It’s definitely been a while since my spine has taken such punishment. In the end, the competition was won by a band called Jekyl, I’m not sure which ones they were, they all sounded the same to me until the John McClane”Die Hard” intro came through the speakers and all hell broke loose for the next half hour.

Itchy Trigger Finger came 2nd on the night, landing themselves a future support slot with MCD promotions. With an E.P launch and nationwide tour ahead of them this summer, things are going from strength to strength for these homegrown metal heroes and I for one can’t wait to hit the road with them again.
