I took a trip to the KCLR 96FM studios earlier today (where I’m now starting to get grief for being there, some with “ah jesus, not again”, others with “sure we can’t get you an office here” - all in good fun, or at least it bloody well better be!).
The purpose of the trip was to record a brand new segment that’s seemingly being called “Gadgets With Ken”, where I’ll be talking up the latest in tech and gadget offerings from phones to consoles to games to novelty gadgets. Brendan Hennessy is the new host for the afternoon show so the segment will go out with him on a Wednesday between 5 and 6pm. In a quick round up of the latest in gadgets there’s a look at the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, the new Nokia N95, console wars with the new Xbox Arcade, Playstation 3, and more in between. It’s all a bit of fun and the recording and approach to the whole segment is pretty natural. I reckon it’ll work really well and hope it continues!
The slot itself will be every fortnight which doesn’t put a whole lot of pressure on me either, drop into the station to pre-record that week and away we go!
Seen as I was in the building I hung around to record a slot for Jenny Nolan’s Culture Club which goes out every Tuesday night as the arts show. I’ve been on the show once before, about a month ago or so, and managed to get in some nice plugs for our own upcoming gigs (Guggenheim Grotto this Friday, One Take Sessions on Thursday week) as well as chat up Rockfall. As it turns out Jenny is a big Johnny Cash fan so the ‘Walk The Line’ night should be one to look out for on the Thursday of the Rockfall Festival with ‘Walk The Line’ being screened in the cinema before a Johnny Cash tribute band takes to the stage in Paris Texas.
Nice to drop in for the chat (and free chocolate) again and hopefully it won’t be the last time!
The Culture Club slot will air between 8 and 9pm tomorrow night while ‘Gadgets With Ken’ will go out Wednesday afternoon between 5 and 6pm.
