Ok, so that line isn’t in the show and I just thought of adding it in last night but now is more the time to be remembering existing lines rather than creating new ones.
Confused yet? The answer will be revealed at 8pm in Cleere’s Theatre in Kilkenny tonight, tomorrow, Friday and Saturday as myself, Ross and the rest of The Devious Theatre Company take to the stage to present Heart Shaped Vinyl, a ‘theatrical mix tape’ of comedy, romance, makeups, breakups, friendships and relationships through the ages.
We’ve been rehearsing this show for the past month or so all the while preparing for the mammoth that is Cannibal! The Musical in August. Both myself and Ross were in the debut production of HSV August last year and barring two we’ve reassembled the original cast to reproduce the show this week for an extended four night run.
I’m still (and we as a group) shocked by the reactions to last year’s performance which was dubbed as the ‘best theatre in 2006′ in the Kilkenny Advertiser back in January of this year. You can’t beat a press quote like that I tell you! I’ll be on the stage playing ‘Des’, a vinyl collector in the 90s who meets Grainne, a primary school teacher, on a blind date. Music is used to broker the conversation and navigate through the awkwardness of the occasion and the scene is one of ten (and first of my two) which show how music impacts our lives, can dictate our relationships, our emotions and feelings.
We were physically turning people away from the show last year due to the demand and its definitely all systems go on the promotion and advertising front so hopefully its going to be more of the same this year. We can live in hope anyway. We’re just delighted to be at this stage (opening night), seems to have coming around so bloody quickly! In about 90 minutes I’m off to Cleere’s, lay out the seats, organise the programs, tidy up, sort out the costume, all the fun bit….
If you’re dropping down tonight or sticking around the bar afterwards then introduce yourself if I don’t know you, love to hear what you think of the show!
