Ordered myself a Behringer Xenyx 502 Mixer today from Music Store in Cologne, Germany. I’m hoping their delivery is a little quicker than Thomann’s, have never ordered from them before. There’s maybe a euro in the difference with Thomann but seen as I’ve sent close to €10,000 worth of business to Thomann (thats a ball-park figure, could be a bit less) in the last year I thought I’d test Music Store’s services, but thats just for the sake of a test - I still shop Thomann (and Essaness in Kilkenny).

Behringer Xenyx 502 Mixer

Seen as I’ve put a new desk into the room I’m in here (the bedroom now doubling as a KilkennyMusic.com / Devious Theatre office) I figured I may get it set up for recording. I’m looking to pick up this particular mBox in a few weeks but for the moment have ordered a Behringer Xenyx 502 to allow me a simple mic / line / fx interface to use with the Macbook Pro. Small, very affordable (costs around 62 euro including the shipping).

The unit itself…

  • Premium ultra low-noise, high headroom analog mixer
  • State-of-the-art XENYX Mic Preamp comparable to stand-alone boutique preamps
  • Neo-classic “British” 2-band EQ for warm and musical sound
  • Main mix (XLR / Line in balanced, L/R jack in) , stereo CD/tape plus separate headphone outputs
  • CD/tape inputs assignable to headphone output or main mix outputs
  • High-quality components and exceptionally rugged construction ensure long life

Needless to say, I’m hoping to get some new ideas, music-wise online or at least onto the computer. I’m gigging in Ryan’s at the end of this month (April 28th) where I’m hoping to showcase some new material while I try afford myself some time to get back into writing. Gonna be a busy two weeks in rehearsing for the gig but thats where the fun comes in, and it is one of the reasons I’ve ordered the Xenyx 502.

Many a time, you sit down to jam away on your own, end up coming up with some really nice tracks, lyrics, rhymes, chord patterns, riffs - whatever - but would you think to remember a pen? Or switch on a recorder? Nope. Some of the best stuff I’ve written doesn’t exist any more and I’m determined to change that.

So… when this arrives, expect a review of it from me and hopefully a track or too. Since I picked up this guitar a month or two ago I’ve been dying to get something recorded with it. Sure for 60 quid to ship the mixer from Germany, you can’t go wrong really, can you?
